Best Of Anushka Sharma: Seven Roles The Actor Aced

Starting her acting career with Yash Raj Films' Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shahrukh Khan in 2008, Anushka Sharma's rise to fame has been quick yet consistent. In a journey spanning a decade, Anushka has worked in 19 films. In this 10 year span, the actress also started her very own production house "Clean Slate Films".

Experimenting with the premise and roles, she has churned out some versatile performances. She is also one of those rare actors who have maintained a balance between low budget content-driven films and big-budget Bollywood masala films. So, here are seven career-best roles of Anushka with which the actor won us over.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Scoring a debut in Hindi films with a banner as reputed as Yash Raj, and that too opposite Shah Rukh Khan, is a something many struggling actors would be envious of. But the opportunity posed its own set of challenges. The focus and attention would naturally be more on Khan, and any actor would have to work hard to leave a solid first impression in his company. However, Anushka made her screen presence felt, with her acting skills and smooth dance moves. Anushka managed to pleasantly surprise the audience, and "Tani partner" stayed with them long after the film ended.

The rom-com, drama revolved around the aspirations and desires of a common middle-class couple bound in an arranged alliance that none was ready for. The desires and dreams of a married woman, who loves to dance, and wants to pursue her dream, was beautifully portrayed by Sharma.

Band Baja Barat

Her third venture with Yash Raj Films, after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Badmaash Company made a lot of noise. This 2010 film marked Ranveer Singh's debut in Bollywood. Story of a young business entrepreneur breaking into the wedding business with a headstrong partner, the film threw in an entertaining mix of relationship turmoil and challenges of running a business to engage the audience. Her character Shruti, the focused business-minded single young women got her applause from the audience and proved that she was here to stay.

P.K

Rajkumar Hirani directed P.K, starring Anushka and Amir Khan, is the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film worldwide which made an impressive 832 crores at the box office. Attracting all the controversies possible, the film touched on the sensitive topic of religious beliefs. Anushka as the fearless and firm journalist Jaggu, is both the voice of reason and support system for Khan's character P.K in this film. Despite being cast opposite a big superstar, she manages to leave her mark in the film.

NH10

In 2015 Sharma started her career as a producer with Navdeep Singh directed revenge thriller NH10. This action thriller set up in Gurgaon was gory and intense. She slayed the role of badass revenge taking wife, with her kickass action sequences. The nail-biting chase sequences and the engaging storyline kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Especially in the climax when Anushka took the charge and went on a rampage. With no stereotypical 'male protector' to shield her, her madness and raw energy sent a chill down the viewers' spine.

Sultan

Ali Abbas Zafar's film Sultan, starring Anushka and Salman Khan is the eighth-highest-grossing Indian film worldwide. Based on the lives of two wrestling players, this sports drama made 589.25 crores on the box office. Unlike any other Salman films, where female actresses are cast as 'eye candies', Anushka played the rough and tough character of a female wrestler here. For this role, she trained with professionals and learned wrestling moves. The actress aced this role like a pro.

Ae Dill Hai Mushkil

This romantic drama directed by Karan Johar was surrounded by controversies before its release, due to the casting of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, which caused outrage following the 2016 Uri attack. Based on one-sided love, heartbreak and friendship, the film showcases the importance of relationships. How every relation has its own unique place in our lives. Alizeh played by Anushka beautifully, portrayed the importance of friendship in one's life, and how sometimes friendship is even more valuable than love. Most importantly how women have the authority to say "no" to any unwanted relationship.

Pari

This small budget horror flick directed by Prosit Roy received applause from critics as well as from the audience.  Combining scary makeup with her acting prowess in this movie, Sharma delivered one of her best performances till date. This is a mystery/horror film which had both content and jump scares, which is a rarity in Bollywood.

Taking a risk and playing the unconventional role of a ghost shows Anushka's hunger as an artist. She has the courage, versatility and urge to do something different every time. Besides acting, she also produced this film.
